Are You Beautiful or Average?

Be honest: How do you think of yourself? Do you think you’re beautiful? Average? Do you care what others think? Take a minute to watch the video below and think about some of these questions. Really think about it.

For me, I would have chosen the “Beautiful” doorway. There are many ways to define beautiful. The media often convinces us that unless we are runway models waltzing off the cover of Vogue magazine, we are not beautiful. Beauty is how you feel inside. It’s a big, optimistic smile. Twinkling, life-loving eyes. Wrinkles, yes, even wrinkles that have been earned over a life of excitement, experience and wisdom.

It really struck me when I saw a mother and her daughter talk about the different doorways they would have passed through. The mother knew how beautiful her daughter was, and wanted to pull her through the “Beautiful” door. This made me think about my daughter and my beautiful grandchildren – all who share a special light and beauty with the world. It would absolutely break my heart to think that any of them would question how beautiful they are – now or ever! Pop-culture, the media, and many other influencers can push their idea of beauty on us, but as long as we continue to teach our children and remind those we love just how wonderful they are, it’s my hope that they will ignore what others might think and embrace the uniqueness that each and every person brings to our planet.

    Wow.
That was hard to watch actually.
Did you notice that alone they were self conscious and chose Average but when they were able to empower another woman they chose do do so? I suppose I’m guilty of both which is fascinating because I have two teenage daughters, one which would stand and question her decision and choose Average if alone and the other who would walk straight through the Beautiful door and probably come back out just so she can walk through it again….
I’m sharing this video with them…
I can’t wait to see what they say.
Sometimes all we need is permission… thank you Patty.
