Better Sex, Better Skin

OK, so sex may not replace a good moisturizer or sunscreen but now there’s scientific proof that a healthy sex life can mean healthier skin and hair. And if you really needed an excuse for having more sex (and really, who needs an excuse?) studies show that it’s just good for your overall health.

An article in Women’s Health magazine lists five reasons why sex is good for you, including: An improved overall glow. Sex, the article reminds us, helps improve blood circulation, increasing the flow of oxygen to the skin and other organs. “This boost in circulation is what brightens the complexion and gives your skin that glow,” says Dr. Joel Schlessinger, a board-certified dermatologist quoted in the article. “It also increases your heart rate, which gets the blood flowing.”

Sex also can help you build stronger hair and nails, according to Dr. Schlessinger. “Research has shown that sex improves the body’s ability to absorb and metabolize nutrients effectively,” the doctor is quoted in the article. “An increase in those essential vitamins and minerals means healthier hair and stronger nails in the long run.”

And, while more sex may keep us up at night, the eventual payoff is better sleep, according to the article, which points out that oxytocin, released during sex, helps us relax. “Often referred to as the cuddle hormone, oxytocin floods the brain when we have sex,” says Dr. Nicholas Sieveking, a board-certified plastic surgeon. “this is what gives us that sleepy, relaxed feeling after an orgasm.”

Of course, Pure Romance is here to help your clients (and you!) have better health. After all, it’s exactly what the doctor ordered!
