Maintaining Your Sexual Health

It’s becoming the time of year when we start to think about our goals for the following year. We resolve to be a healthier person, to lose weight, to eat better or to reduce the amount of stress in our daily lives. But I also think women need to make a resolution to start taking better care of their vaginal health! What most women don’t realize is how important maintaining their vaginal health is to their sexual pleasure. You don’t typically put the two together, but by making sure you are healthy, in all areas of your body, you are ensuring that your body responses work properly during your most intimate moments.

One area I think women really need to be familiar with is doing their Kegel exercises routinely. Many of you are somewhat familiar with Kegel-ing, and for that you deserve a pat on the back! For those of you who are new to the concept, I suggest you take a few notes. You can also review this information in Chapter Four of my book titled Putting the “O” Back in Romance, where I give a variety of tips and suggestions on how to improve your orgasms.

Pure Romance’s Ben Wa Balls are Kegel exercisers designed to tone and strengthen the pubococcygeus or “PC” muscles which form the floor of the pelvis. The health of these muscles plays an important role in sexual arousal and climax, as well as in other aspects of bodily functioning. The bottom line: Ben Wa Balls help to strengthen the vaginal muscles which lead to increased muscle control. The benefits you experience from healthy muscles are amazing!

Women should do their Kegel exercises regularly because:

  • Kegel exercises increase the blood flow to the genital area, and so support sexual arousal mechanisms.
  • Kegel exercises strengthen and tone the muscles of the vaginal canal so that women who Kegel can improve their capacity to orgasm by means of vaginal play; this is especially true in terms of both the intensity and the frequency of their orgasms.
  • Kegel exercises are essential to the treatment of sexual difficulties such as vaginismus (tightening of the vaginal muscles) and pain during intercourse.
  • Kegel exercises can help with bladder control and many other problems of the pelvic floor that are often associated with aging, due to the increased level of muscle control.
  • Kegel exercises strengthen and tone the musculature of the pelvic area in a way that can make vaginal delivery during childbirth easier.

If you are new to Kegel exercises, you may be wondering – how does this product even work? In a way, Ben Wa Balls are designed to be a workout routine for your vaginal muscles. They are like lifting weights, vaginally. To get started, you must first find your PC muscles. Imagine that you are using the restroom. In the middle of your stream of urine, imagine stopping and starting the stream several times. The muscles you use to do this are your PC muscles.

Now that you have located your PC muscles, you should exercise them while your bladder is completely empty. First, insert one of the Ben Wa Balls and try squeezing your PC muscles to hold the exerciser in for several minutes. In the beginning, you may find that you are also squeezing your anal muscles; as you become experienced with Kegel exercises, try to separate out the muscle groups that you are able to exercise by squeezing.

Now figure out a suitable exercise routine just as you would if you were trying to tone and strengthen a different muscle group by going to the gym every other day. For example, suppose you start by being able to hold the Ben Wa Ball in for 30 seconds or a minute; try doing this three times a day for a couple of weeks, and then try increasing this to both balls three times a day for a couple of weeks.

Once you are skilled at Kegel exercises, you should be able to do them without anyone else knowing what you are doing… boring meetings at work, chores around the house, and other daily events all become opportunities to work quietly on improving your sexual health!

Only when you improve your PC muscle strength will you truly understand the powerful impact they can have on your pleasure potential.
